The Hennepin County Teen Parent Connection has joined with Northwest Teen Parent Connection to work on developing housing for teen parents. There is currently no supportive housing for teen parents in Hennepin County. As a result, we are leading the initiative to create 30-40 units of supportive housing in Hennepin County for teen parent families experiencing homelessness.
1,396 families in Hennepin County are headed by teen mothers (19 and younger), accounting for 1,579 children (Hennepin County, Health Protection Assessment Team)
In Hennepin County, it is estimated that 301 households headed by young adults (21 and younger) experience homelessness every night in Hennepin County (Wilder Research)
There are currently no shelters available in Hennepin County for minor teen parents and minimal supportive housing programs.
